A Few Autobiographical Words

In my previous aspirations, I’ve been a Luxury Celebrity Chef, Designer, Division 1 Swimmer, Musician, Artist, Event Planner, Philosopher, Author and now CEO of Hurn Publications.

I love loose leaf teas, I collect teacups and coffee cups, and strangely I love big soup spoons. In contrast to the big beautiful weddings I’ve designed and coordinated, my tastes run fairly simple. I watch tons of documentaries, generally anything to do with oceanography, marine biology or military history. I’m also a sucker for terrible jokes and puns. Typically, I’m reading, writing or playing music if I’m not working.

I’m also not a fan of small talk. I like to jump into the middle of a conversation and get the heart of a topic. So, feel free to reach out and start a real conversation.

Why I Write – The Philosophy Behind the Words

I write about whatever tends to be in my head. I maintain the curiosity of a scientist with the approach of a journalist, and the knowledge of a philosophy and ethics major. Putting them together creates the books I prefer to write.

I mainly listen to movie soundtracks, and if you let it, the music can take you to places you didn’t even know that you wanted to aspire to. I want to find those places I don’t even know exist.

My Writing Style

I refuse to stick with a specific genre to write in, and instead, allow my inspirations, knowledge, need to help others and life events influence what I write.

My Writing Process

Coffee. Tea. Coffee. Tea. Add in Hot Cocoa if it’s during the holiday season. Boom!

My process is generally a lot of research and thinking; usually thinking out-loud to the dogs and cat, occasionally my husband is in the room. Most of the conversations are one sided with me generally doing most of the talking while my two dogs, cat and husband just stare at me like I’ve lost my mind. They’re usually right.

I whole-heartedly enjoy the process of researching and writing. It’s such a fun journey, and you tend to learn a lot during the process. My mind craves to learn, and this is my element.

I, unfortunately, express all my thoughts on my face, so if you were to see me during this portion on the process, it would be comical.  You’d most likely see a semi-unkempt woman mumbling to herself while her expressions change from the multitude of emotions that go through thinking on a book topic. Now that I think about it, the dogs, cat, and husband are right, maybe I am a little crazy. Then again, most of us writers are an odd bunch.
